Mark comes to Glocal with extensive experience in education, administration and working with other cultures. He retired from a 30-year career in education (teacher, principal, and administrator). After that he has supported our local New Americans in many areas. Such as teaching at a local english language center, facilitating the Somali Bantu community to organize a monthly food distribution program, and co-creating a refugee community garden at Cole Community Church. Before joining the board, he had been a faithful Glocal volunteer. All combined, his skills have been essential to support and grow Glocal’s vision.
Michelle retired from Hewlett Packard as a Director of Engineering (30 years) and shortly after helped to found Glocal Community Partners in 2014 with the Armstrongs. Her experience as a board member from The Idaho Nonprofit Center was valuable when Glocal became a 501c3. She led the growth of the baby shower program and assists as a volunteer with other programs. Her previous volunteer work included the women programs at her church, Komen Race for the Cure, Global Talent and others.
Ben comes to Glocal with experience in higher education (7 yrs.) and law (10+ yrs.). He currently is an attorney with Idaho Employment Lawyers. Along with this he has volunteered with Idaho Volunteer Lawyer Program, Idaho Military Alliance Wills Clinic, Christian Legal Society member to name a few. He’s welcomed New Americans personally through our Glocal friend program. Ben’s knowledge gives meaningful insight into Glocal’s long-term strategic planning and nonprofit management.
Marcia comes with a wealth of experience in human resources. She is a retired HR Manager and has 30 years of experience in HR (US Bank-10 years, HP-20 years). Also was an adjunct faculty staff at Boise State University, teaching upper division HR Management courses (‘93-’96) Her commitment to the local community shows with her service on numerous non-profit boards which include Young Life, IACI, Boise Family YMCA, Healthwise, United Way, Child Care Connections. Her expertise has guided Glocal in setting up HR processes and assisting with strategic planning to name a few.
Jenny is currently serving as Associate Minister at Collister United Methodist Church (CUMC) and Community Schools Coordinator for Taft Elementary for Boise School District. CUMC hosts an African church and Taft has a former refugee student body of over 40%. In her current roles, along with a strong education background (B.S and M.S), this supports her passion for community partnerships, education and leading in ministries of compassion and justice within the church. Glocal is excited to have her expertise in community engagement, serving diverse communities, and church mobilization.
Tori comes to the board with a wealth of community connections and intercultural work. She has worked/attended True Hope Collister Church for the past 15 years. Currently she is their Communications and Missions Director. She also serves on the Jefferson Elementary School PTA, a very diverse student body, and volunteers weekly in the classroom. As a long-time Glocal volunteer, she is familiar with several programs. Glocal is excited to employ her additional skills in finances, organizational development, and long-range planning.
Tamara is currently working as an HR information specialist with the State of Idaho. Glocal is excited to utilize her previous experience in business administration, public relations in education and healthcare, program administration, and funding development. She has worked or volunteered with Genesis World Mission, Anser Charter School, and Family Medicine Residency of Idaho. Her strong connections in the community and technical knowledge are a wonderful asset to our board team.
Nick Armstrong and his wife founded Glocal after 23 years of living overseas and working cross-culturally. During the time they lived in Indonesia, Nick worked in community development and disaster response. He was part of the coordination efforts for more than 30 natural disasters, including four years dedicated to the 2004 tsunami response in Aceh, North Sumatra. Nick brings 25 years of experience with the marginalized and those who have been forcibly displaced due to natural disasters and other reasons.
Laura Armstrong is the current co-Director of Glocal Community Partners. Her husband and her started Glocal after 23 years of living overseas and working cross-culturally. While living overseas, Laura utilized her educational background and worked at an International school as a teacher and then as an elementary principal. She brings organization, creativity, strong cross-cultural experience and love for those from different cultural backgrounds than her own.
